  Malaysian Allergy Day 2005

World Allergy Day 2005 focuses on the prevention of allergies and allergic asthma, a major WAO and World Health Organization project. World Allergy Day 2005 aims to:

  • Increase awareness of allergies
  • Educate physicians, patients and the public
  • Highlight World Allergy Organization survey results of 30 countries suggested that in a total population of 1,200,000,000 in those countries, 22% ( 250 million people) suffer from some form of allergic disease

The immune response in allergy begins with sensitization, the development of a unique Immunoglobulin E antibody in the blood to a specific allergen. The predisposition to develop IgE sensitization against allergens is inherited.

IgE sensitization can lead to typical allergic diseases:

  • Asthma
  • Rhinitis
  • Atopic eczema
  • Conjunctivitis

World Allergy Day 2005 will review current knowledge about prevention of sensitization in susceptible individuals, and provide guidelines on how to prevent symptoms in people who are already sensitized to allergens.
